Armed Forces FAQs

What is recognised prior learning?

Recognition of Prior Learning is a framework used to gain academic credits for all of your experiential and accredited learning and these are mapped across to our portfolio of awards that are of interest to you.

How does the scheme work?

We begin with an initial form that asks you to list all of your learning within the armed forces and we have dedicated staff to help with the process.  Once completed, the information can be used to apply directly to the University.

What courses can I study?

The University offers a wide range of courses from HND level to postgraduate qualifications. Popular options are project management, sports coaching and leadership, forensics and teaching. Search our full range of courses.

Do I need any GCSEs or A Levels?

No, for most courses you don’t necessarily need formal qualifications. You will need to fill out our assessment form to see how your current skills and knowledge meet the entry requirements for the course you want to study.

How much does a course cost?

Course costs depend upon which course you have chosen. The course fee is displayed in the 'fees and funding' section on the relevant course page.  There may also be opportunity to apply for MoD funding (but conditions apply) and all the other benefits that all students have access to.

What study support can the University offer?

The University supports students who have been out of a formal education environment for a while by providing additional study skills sessions. These sessions can help you with report writing, exam preparation, referencing and essay writing.
