You may be entitled to money to fund your study and living costs

How much a student receives, how it is paid and who can receive it will vary depending on the scholarship or bursary, but the money doesn't usually have to be paid back (unless you decide to leave the course early).

University Scholarships and Bursaries (2023 to 2024)

USW Postgraduate Alumni Discount 2023 to 2024

The University of South Wales is offering a 20% reduction in tuition fees for all University of South Wales* graduates starting a taught/online*** MA, MSC, LLM, MBA, DBA course from September 2023 (this includes students starting their course in January/February 2024). 

*This includes graduates from the University of South Wales, University of Glamorgan, University of Wales Newport, the Polytechnic of Wales, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. 

USW Postgraduate Ethnicity Equality Bursary 2023 to 2024

USW is offering 10 bursaries to postgraduate students commencing their studies in the 2023-24 academic year and have self-identified as one of the ethnic groups on this UK government published list.

USW Postgraduate Sanctuary Scholarship

The Sanctuary Scholarship will support two successful postgraduate applicants with tuition fees waived for the duration of their postgraduate studies and a scholarship to assist with course related costs. 

USW Refugee Sanctuary Scheme

The USW Refugee Sanctuary Scheme is a scheme providing support to a limited number of eligible refugees via free English language tuition prior to starting a course at the University.

USW Sport Scholarship

Available to students performing to a high standard in their chosen sport, and representing the University in the British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) league. It is designed to support potentially elite athletes and sports people who are competing at least at junior national or international.

Diagnostic Assessment Bursary

Enrolled USW students studying a minimum of 60 credits in 2023 to 2024 academic year, may be eligible to receive a free internal dyslexia assessment with support from the Diagnostic Testing Bursary.

Bursaries for Welsh master’s students

The Welsh Government is continuing to fund a bursary scheme aimed at encouraging Welsh students to study their master’s degrees in Wales for the 2023/24 academic year.Three types of bursaries are available:

  • bursaries worth up to £2,000 for STEMM students
  • bursaries worth £4,000 for anyone aged 60 or over studying a master's programme in any subject area
  • bursaries worth £1,000 for students studying through the medium of Welsh
