CHEMICAL & PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES DEGREES
Creating Future Scientists
Skilled chemistry-based science graduates are in high demand, so if your ambition is to discover the next blockbuster drug or rise to the challenge of teaching science, our courses are the first step towards achieving your goal.
We offer a selection of degrees, so you can specialise in an area that interests you. We also have foundation year courses and MSci opportunities on our Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences courses. Employers are impressed with our students’ experience and knowledge of analytical methods and equipment, which is perfect when you start your career in this varied industry.

Ready for the Workplace

Chemists are capable of successful careers in a wide range of scientific, business and commercial areas, including food science, pharmaceutical research or development, and environmental monitoring. The skills you gain from a degree in chemistry are valued in other professions, for example, to train for careers in patent law or accountancy.
Accredited Courses

Our courses are accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry for partially meeting the academic criteria for Chartered Chemist (CChem) status. This means that what you learn meets professional requirements and will make you a more attractive candidate to employers.
Impressive Facilities

Our George Knox laboratories are part of a £15m investment in science for the University, meaning you will be taught in new and well equipped spaces. These join the Grade II listed Alfred Russel Wallace building which is also used for teaching.

Expert Teaching & Support
Meet the Team
One of the most important elements of any course is the team behind it. Our academics have made a series of ‘meet the team’ videos so that you can see who will be teaching you in September and get to know them on more of a personal level.
Dr Suzy Kean is the academic manager for Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences at USW. In this video, Suzy touches upon her various experiences from working in the Australian Outback to laboratory management and stresses the importance of women in science.
