National Cyber Security Academy
Building cyber security specialists
Our National Cyber Security Academy, based in Newport City Campus, plugs the skills gap in the industry by training some of our brightest and best undergraduate to spearhead the fight against cyber crime. The Academy harnesses the expertise of the University, which includes the certification from the National Cyber Security Centre for the MSc Computer Forensics course and provisionally for the MSc Cyber Security course.
Working with the Academy, Welsh Government and major industry partners develop projects around the challenges they face which form live briefs for students to work on with support from academic specialists.
The Academy's portfolio of business partners continues to grow with Cisco, Thales, Tarian, Alert Logic, Wolfberry Cyber Security, JFrench and ThirdSpace to name a few.
Working with industry
All of our National Cyber Security students engage in live projects. This is their opportunity to show companies and researchers the skills they have gained from studying.
The projects students have worked on include:
- Pen Testing
- Data extraction from IoT devices
- Securing and testing websites
- Identifying vulnerabilities in organisations' systems
- Creation of a 'cyber toolkit'
- Digital cleansing
- Investigation of security risks
