From Shakespeare and the English language to writing media, our English degrees will help you develop and enhance your expression, critical writing and thinking skills. Many of our English and creative writing graduates can be found in writing-related areas such as editing, publishing and journalism.
There’s a vast number of genres, texts and periods you can study within your modules, this makes our English degrees extremely flexible. This means you have the opportunity to design your own degree, selecting options that reflect your particular areas of interest. That’s in addition to learning how to teach English to speakers of other languages (TESOL).
Throughout your studies you’ll gain skills that will help you succeed in any workplace, and engage with challenges set by external organisations to put these into practice.
Our connections mean you can attend work placements to help your CV stand out - organisations include Literature Wales, The Big Issue, Buzz magazine, as well as schools and libraries
(TEACHING ENGLISH TO SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES)
These modules offer intensive practice in lesson planning, teaching and curriculum design, as well as a qualification you can use anywhere in the world – at no extra cost.
The places you study and live make a big difference to what you get out of university. It’s important to be somewhere that feels like home, but can also surprise you. South Wales offers rich experiences, with Cardiff at the heart.

We have five campuses across three locations, but we’re one university. Every campus is open to you and whatever inspires you, you’re always welcome.
