History degrees at USW provide the opportunity to study a variety of histories, political, economic, social, intellectual and cultural from British and European history, the Americas from the colonial period to the present, and aspects of global history from Cuba to China.
We place emphasis on developing your skills in gathering and evaluating evidence, and learning how to build arguments that are rational and well presented. You’ll be taught by staff who are internationally recognised researchers. This informs what you learn in the classroom, so you’ll benefit from the latest historical findings and prepare you for a wide range of jobs.
History is one of the University’s most successful research areas. In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework – the government’s official measure of research capability – 64% of our History research was rated in the top two categories: 'world-leading’ and 'internationally excellent’.
Our History degrees ensure students gain verifiable digital skills, including use and production of podcasting, blogging, and geomapping. Our academic staff are all actively involved in research from early modern magic to USA in the 1960s, so you’ll be taught by staff who are at the forefront of their specialist fields.
History at USW is delivered through blended learning – using classroom teaching with option for live streaming; ensuring our students stay connected Our History degrees allow you to customise parts of your second and third year modules, allowing you to specialise in areas that interest you the most, whether that might be witchcraft, women in modern Britain or America in the Sixties, there is plenty to choose from.
Students on our History degrees can choose to undertake a work-based learning module to gain experience as part of their degree, supported by specialist careers advisers. Students have gained experience working at schools and museums in the local area and placements can be suited to your individual interests.
