USW Music and Sound provides real-world simulation, education and networks that prepare students for successful careers within the music industry.
Our location and connections with the music industry provide an ideal backdrop for students and our collaborations with Natwest Bank, Music Managers Forum, BBC Horizons, Warner Music, Swn Festival and Boomtown are at the heart of our courses.
Attending an open day, whether online or on-campus, is the ideal way to learn more about our Music and Sound courses and get a feel of what it's like to study at the University of South Wales.
Speak to the lecturers and expert staff who teach the courses, take tours of our campuses and facilities, view accommodation, speak to our advice team about placement and career opportunities and discuss finances. Plus, speak to current students and hear about their experiences first hand.
Cardiff has officially been declared a music city – the first of its kind in the UK. Students will be part of our city's vibrant music scene and benefit from our creative industry networks.
Our students host the Immersed Music Festival each year, leading on all event management including ticketing, artist management, sales and marketing. The line-up for 2020 featured 27 bands over three stages, with Richard Ashcroft, Tom Grennan and Bad Sounds headlining.
Our students and graduates celebrate prestigious award wins including current student, Hollie Singer, who was announced as the winner of the Welsh Music Prize 2019, with her band Adwaith and David Newington aka Boy Azooga in 2018.
Each year we take time to celebrate the work of our Faculty of Creative Industry students through a festival called 'Gradfest'.
This dedicated festival is home to project work, blogs, videos, vinyl samplers, soundcloud playlists and so much more from our Music and Sound students.
Take a look at what our students have worked on over the past year or so by viewing the Gradfest 2020 - Music and Sound website page.
USW Cardiff is based in the heart of the city centre, with major studios and creative agencies within easy reach including BBC, Wolf Studios, S3 Advertising and Golley Slater.
Meet friends for life, join clubs and societies, experience campus life, benefit from a huge array of facilities and equipment and study a course that will shape the rest of your life.
Employability is at the heart of everything we do. Our students have the opportunity to take part in live projects, industry masterclasses, briefs and practical placements. Our industry partnerships have resulted in our students putting on live events for some of the biggest acts.
In addition to teaching essential technical skills for industry, we ensure students are adept in creativity, problem solving and innovation. With emphasis on ‘problem-led’ learning, we want to ensure that every student is creative-on-demand and job-ready.
