Do you see life differently to other people? Can you capture moments and tell stories in a single image? If so, you could join the ranks of our graduates who work as professional photographers all over the world.
We’ve taught photography for over 100 years, earning a national and international reputation. You’ll find world-class photography studios on campus, where students develop their skills and talents.
USW’s European Centre for Documentary Research provides a focus in Wales for high quality research in photography and film.
Attending an open day, whether online or on-campus, is the ideal way to learn more about our Photography courses and get a feel of what it's like to study at the University of South Wales.
Speak to the lecturers and expert staff who teach the courses, take tours of our campuses and facilities, view accommodation, speak to our advice team about placement and career opportunities and discuss finances. Plus, speak to current students and hear about their experiences first hand.
We have two large photography studios and specialist technical support on-site with expertise in lighting and set up, so you'll have all you need for a professional photography shoot. We also have two digital labs - one to scan and process images and the other for printing.
You will be taught by world-leading photographers, writers and curators through a series of lectures, seminars and technical workshops which will encourage you to develop new ways of thinking about your practice.
You'll engage with live projects, have the opportunity to take part in study exchange schemes or travel overseas to further contextualise your photographic work. We have worked with companies including Wyatt-Clarke+Jones, the National Trust, Atticus Digital & Samsung UK, National Museum Wales, and Ally Capellino.
Each year we take time to celebrate the work of our Faculty of Creative Industry students through a festival called 'Gradfest'.
This dedicated festival is home to project work, blogs, videos, social posts and so much more from our Photography students.
Take a look at what our students have worked on over the past year or so by viewing the Gradfest 2020 Photography website page.
USW Cardiff is based in the heart of the city centre, with major studios and creative agencies within easy reach including BBC, Wolf Studios, S3 Advertising and Golley Slater.
Meet friends for life, join clubs and societies, experience campus life, benefit from a huge array of facilities and equipment and study a course that will shape the rest of your life.
Employability is at the heart of everything we do. Our students have the opportunity to take part in live projects, industry masterclasses, briefs and practical placements. The BA (Hons) Photography course is accredited by the AOP, a stamp of approval in industry.
In addition to teaching essential technical skills for industry, we ensure students are adept in creativity, problem solving and innovation. With emphasis on ‘problem-led’ learning, we want to ensure that every student is creative-on- demand and job-ready.
