Making the most of collaboration with fellow students
I’m a third-year student at USW, pursuing a degree in teaching. My journey started with a passion for education, which I discovered while working as a teaching assistant in Hereford. Despite challenges finding the right course, USW stood out for its strong reputation and supportive environment.
The in-person learning at USW has been a highlight for me. Unlike previous courses I’ve experienced, this programme is highly interactive, with collaborative classroom sessions that make every lecture engaging. A standout part of my course is the Welsh lessons, designed to prepare us for teaching the language. These sessions are interactive and fun, helping me connect with classmates and develop practical skills.
Find your courseFeeling confident to pursue a career
The hands-on opportunities at USW have been exceptional. Placements are integral to the course, offering real-world teaching experience and a chance to apply what I’ve learned. Additionally, guest lectures from experienced teachers cover topics like digital technology and supporting English as an additional language. These insights have been invaluable in preparing me for the classroom.
Collaborative projects have also been a significant part of my experience. From group synergy days during placements to creating digital resources with classmates, these activities have taught me the importance of teamwork and shared learning.
My skills as a teacher and a researcher have grown immensely. I’ve gained confidence, independence, and the ability to evaluate sources critically. For anyone considering this course, I’d advise embracing the challenge—it’s demanding, but the rewards far outweigh the sacrifices.
