University of Glamorgan - Credit achieved between 2002 and March 2013

A module is a self-contained and coherent packaged unit of study of learning with a general credit rating, an assigned level, defined learning outcomes, and assessment strategies appropriate to its level and outcomes.

A credit point is defined as what can be achieved in ten notional hours of student learning time. The normal yearly workload for a full-time undergraduate student is 120 credits.

The credit rating of each module is shown on the transcript. 

As set out in the National Qualification Framework for Higher Education:

  • Level 4-5 - BTEC/Pearson HNC/HND
  • Level 4-6 - The stages of undergraduate study with level 6 being the final stage of honours degree
  • Level 7 - Masters programme
  • Level 8 - Doctoral programme

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  1. Some courses have derogations and as a result the mark boundaries may differ slightly from the above.
  2. If the module mark is greater than 40 and the module grade is shown as Narrow Fail or Fail, it is because not all of the learning outcomes for the module have been passed.

Grade Explanation
1st (First Class Honours) Successful completion of the award and obtained First Class Honours.
2:1 (Upper Second Class Honours) Successful completion of the award and obtained Upper Second Class Honours.
2:2 (Lower Second Class Honours) Successful completion of the award and obtained Lower Second Class Honours.
3 (Third Class Honours) Successful completion of the award and obtained a Third Class Honours.
CEPASS (Pass – Employment Experience Certificate) Successful completion of the employment experience placement.
CC (Continue to new academic session) Successful completion of studies and are able to continue to the next part of the course.
CO (Continue) Successful completion of studies and are able to continue on the current level of study.
DEPASS (Pass – Employment Experience Diploma) Successful completion of the employment experience placement.
DIST (Distinction) Successful completion of the award and obtained a grade of Distinction.
Discont (Discontinue) Failure in such a way as to suggest there is no possibility of successful completion of the course.
EC (Exchange Complete) Successful completion of studies.
EXC (Excluded) Results have been withheld due to outstanding Financial obligations with the University.
FA (First Attempt) Extenuating circumstances approved for assessment(s) with a status of ‘First Attempt’ and can now sit these as if for the first time during the resit period.
FAR (First Attempts and Repeats) The modules that have been failed need to be repeated. In addition some of the assessments can be re-sat as if for the first time as Extenuating Circumstances have been approved.
FF (First Attempts and Referrals) Some of the assessments need to be re-sat, some assessments can be sat as if for the first time as Extenuating Circumstances have been approved.
INTER (Intermediate Award) An Intermediate award has been made and the programme of study has been exited.
INTERDISCONT (Discontinue – Intermediate Award) An Intermediate award has been made as there has been failure in such a way as to suggest there is no possibility of successful completion of the course.
INTERM (Intermediate Award with Merit) An Intermediate award has been made and the programme of study has been exited prior to the scheduled end of course.
INTERD (Intermediate Award with Distinction) An Intermediate award has been made and the programme of study has been exited prior to the scheduled end of course.
INTERP (Intermediate Award and Progress) An Intermediate award has been made and the programme of study has been exited prior to the scheduled end of course.
INTERWN (Withdrawn – Intermediate Award) An Intermediate award has been made and the programme of study has been withdrawn from prior to the scheduled end of course.
MA (Repeat the year, re-sit the assessments covered by mitigation) The year of study needs to be repeated, however some assessments can be re-sat as Extenuating Circumstances have been approved.
MERIT (Merit) Successful completion of the award and obtained a grade of Merit
MZ (Proceed carry resit assessment) Successful completion of studies and are able to continue on the next level of study.
NEA (Not Eligible for Award) Currently not eligible for an award.
NOP (Notification of performance) Successful completion of modules and course of study exited.
NOPDISCONT (Discontinue – Notification of Performance) Failure in such a way as to suggest there is no possibility of successful completion of the course.
NOPWN (Withdrawn – Notification of Performance) Successful completion of the modules and the course of study exited.
Pass (completed course) Successful completion of the award.
Pass (continuing course) Successful completion of studies and are able to continue on the next part of the course.
PASS DEG (Pass Degree) Successful completion of the award.
PZ (Proceed Carrying Assessments) Can continue to the next part of the course carrying any failed assessments to be sat in the next academic year.
PRODIS (Proceed to Dissertation) Successful completion of studies and are able to proceed to the dissertation.
Refer Prior to proceeding to the next part of the course any failed assessments will need to be re-sat.
Repeat The current year of study needs to be re-sat.
RFAR (Resits, First Attempts and Repeats) The modules that have been failed need to be repeated. Some assessments need to be re-sat and some can be sat as if for the first time as Extenuating Circumstances have been approved.
RR (Resits and Repeats) The modules that have been failed need to be repeated. Some assessments need to be re-sat.
RT (Proceed; repeat / substitute modules required) The modules that have been failed need to be repeated, or replaced with other appropriate to the course. The next part of the course can be undertaken.
SUSPEND (Suspended/Interrupt Studies) Studies have been suspended at the current time.
WITHDRAWN Withdrawal from studies.

Module values indicate the proportion of formal learning support required for each module. The total value of modules satisfactorily completed must meet the minimum module value requirement for the programme.
