Accessibility Statement: ABP AI chatbot

Our website includes an AI chatbot “Dewi” supplied by ABP. The chatbot allows users to ask questions and helps them find information based on content published by the University of South Wales.

The chatbot uses artificial intelligence to understand questions and provide answers. It operates through ABP’s moreIQ platform. As this is a third-party service, some parts of the chatbot are outside the University’s direct control.

Known accessibility issues:

  • Keyboard and focus navigation: Keyboard focus may skip introductory content, leave the open chatbot, move to content hidden behind it, or return to the top of the page when the chatbot is minimised. The Escape key does not close the chatbot. This does not meet WCAG1.3.2 Meaningful Sequence, Level (A) , 2.1.1 Keyboard, Level (A), 2.1.2 No Keyboard Trap, Level (A), 2.4.3 Focus Order, Level (A), 2.4.11 Focus Not Obscured (Minimum), Level (AA).
  • Colour contrast: Some controls, boundaries and instructional text may be difficult to see, particularly when the chatbot appears against a red background. This does not meet WCAG 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum), Level (AA), 1.4.11: Non-text Contrast, Level (AA).
  • Mobile display: On smaller screens, the closed chatbot can create a large empty area that hides or moves page content and navigation. This does not meet WCAG 1.4.4 Resize Text, Level (AA), 1.4.10 Reflow, Level (AA), 2.4.1 Bypass Blocks, Level (A).

We are working with the chatbot supplier to resolve these issues.
