Allison McKenzie

How the Hub helped Allison turn change into opportunity.

Engagement Hub Stories
Artist at stand

After being made redundant, the Hub gave me the confidence and support to rebuild and refocus on my creative career.

When Newport-based artist Allison Mackenzie was made redundant, she made the choice to turn a setback into an opportunity and pursue her creative career full-time.

Through the USW Engagement Hub, Allison found the support, structure and community to make that transition possible. What started as a difficult moment became the foundation for something new.

By taking part in programmes like Developing Entrepreneurial Women (DEW) and the Creative Industries Cluster Hub, Allison rebuilt her confidence, developed her business skills, and connected with a network of like-minded creatives.

Since then, Allison has delivered art workshops and Japanese calligraphy sessions, collaborated with other creatives across Newport, showcased and sold her work through Start Up Stiwdio opportunities and exhibited her artwork and taken on new creative commissions.

Now working regularly from the Hub, Allison benefits from a dedicated space to focus, create and continue growing her business, alongside a supportive community around her.

Her journey is a great example of how the right support at the right time can help turn change into progress.
