Work Placement

You will have the opportunity to secure your own placement of up to ten months in duration.

Develop your skills across all areas of business including management, marketing and human resources. By the end of the first year, you will have a greater understanding of the different functions of business and how they interrelate as well as being a step closer to becoming a more confident and well-rounded leader.

Global Challenges 
Explore the main global mega-trends, driving forces and challenges for global business today, and the ways in which they impact on global business management and global value chains.

Global Marketing and Communication
This module will equip you with the knowledge and the tools required to design globally integrated marketing communications strategies and practices.

Organisational Behaviour, HRM and Leadership
Gain a critical and integrated understanding of leadership, organisational behaviour and HRM in a global context. 

Global Strategy and Decision-Making  
You will develop your ability to critically understand and evaluate a range of strategic options for effective decision-making consistent in a dynamic and diverse global marketplace.

Strategic Financial Management
The module provides an overview of the strategic financial management of an organization, from both internal and external stakeholder viewpoints.

Operations Management in the Digital Age
This module will provide you with a critical understanding of operations management principles, practices, and methodologies and their adaptation in the digital age for enhanced operational and supply chain performance.

Personal and Professional Skills Development 1
Based on contemporary professional practice and delivered by industry experts, the workshops provide you with the skills needed to become a resilient, ethical and globally minded professional. 

Personal and Professional Skills Development 2

This module builds on the Personal and Professional Skills Development 1 module and offers you an exciting opportunity to further develop your professional and employability supply chain skills via a series of practical skills workshops. Based on contemporary professional practice and delivered by industry experts and/or academic specialists the workshops will provide you with the skills needed to realise your personal aspirations become a resilient, ethical, culturally aware, and globally minded supply chain professional.

Capstone Project

The module will provide you with an exciting opportunity to utilise multiple skills sets, and knowledge gained in previous discipline-based modules to solve a real-world supply chain issue posed by an external or internal client organisation / consultant. Working in a student team you will prepare a report and actionable recommendations for a client using the tools, perspectives and theories studied in the course curriculum. 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Typical qualification requirements:

A minimum UK second-class honours degree or recognised international equivalent qualification.

Relevant managerial experience is preferable and all applicants would be considered on an individual basis.

English language requirements

International applicants will need to have achieved an overall of IELTS 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component/TOEFL 72 overall and a minimum of 18 in reading, 17 in listening, 20 in speaking and 17 in writing or equivalent.

Studying at university is one of the most significant investments you'll ever make. Whilst you’re studying, you’ll have two main financial obligations – tuition fees and living costs. There’s lots of financial help available from the University of South Wales and external funding sources, that may provide loans (which have to be paid back) and grants, scholarships and bursaries (that don't).

*Full-time fees are per year. Part-time fees are per 20 credits. Once enrolled, the fee is anticipated to remain at the same rate throughout the duration of your study on this course except as described below.

Please be aware that we may increase the maximum fee for home students on full-time undergraduate courses only where the Welsh Government increases the permitted level of inflation of fees. Fees for all students (including part-time, postgraduate and international students) may be amended in accordance with our applicable Fees and Debt Management Policy.  We will ensure that students are given clear, intelligible, unambiguous and timely information about our courses and costs in good time, ahead of the next academic year.

Additional Costs

As a student of USW, you’ll have access to lots of free resources to support your study and learning, such as textbooks, publications, online journals, laptops, and plenty of remote-access resources. Whilst in most cases these resources are more than sufficient in supporting you with completing your course, additional costs, both obligatory and optional, may be required or requested for the likes of travel, memberships, experience days, stationery, printing, or equipment.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to obtain the CMI Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership. Students wishing to do this will be charged £250 (price correct at time of writing).

How you’ll learn

You'll learn through a mix of lectures and workshops, with a focus on real industry projects and practical examples to connect theory to practice. Our course team plan a range of extracurricular activities to support students learning including guest talks from industry experts, business visits, and collaborating with students from other courses to share their knowledge.  There are no traditional essays or examinations - all assessments are designed to help you build a portfolio of skills and competencies. From preparing reports and briefings, to presenting, pitching and addressing authentic work-related challenges, you will develop practical skills to prepare you for your career.

Teaching staff

Our MBA Global staff are drawn from across the world, and, between them, speak over 15 languages. They are specialists in core fields such as operations management, business analytics, energy transitions, HRM and digital marketing. They have experience of studying and working in countries across the world, from Australia, India and the USA through to Japan, Nigeria and Finland, and therefore bring to the MBA Global an approach which is informed by culturally diverse experiences.

Placements

MBA Global students can complete either a ‘workplace internship’ or a ‘project-based internship’, offering them an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in real-world business settings and develop skills that are valued by employers. Internships provide a beneficial insight into how organisations operate and the challenges they face - experience that will help you to stand out during interviews and strengthen your CV. With a workplace internship you will be embedded with an employer, and you are likely to have a range of different responsibilities. With our project-based internships, you will work on a focused project for the employer. During your studies, you would have the option to complete two of these project-based internships, giving additional value to your CV. Internship pathways are subject to availability and students will make choices with support from the course team.

The MBA Global is based at our Newport campus in the heart of the city and on the banks of the River Usk - only a few minutes’ walk from the city’s retail hub, and well-connected to major employers. On campus, students can benefit from facilities including our library and Student’s Union as well as our impressive Hydra Research Centre, where students undertake simulated learning and assessments that prepare them to face real world challenges. Outside of the classroom, students benefit from free access to LinkedIn Learning and are required to complete training as part of various modules on the course to strengthen their business portfolio.

Graduate careers

The MBA programme will prepare students for employment within a range of sectors including retail, international management, consultancy, marketing, and e-commerce. It is ideal if you want to progress to a managerial or leadership position within an organisation or work for global companies and MNCs or whether your aim to become a consultant in an area of expertise. Graduates have gone on to work for large organisations such as Santander, Deloitte, the Ministry of Justice, the National Health Service as well as for a host of SMEs both in the UK and beyond.

On the MBA Global, the Personal and Professional Skills Development module provides students with an exciting opportunity to participate in workshops reflecting contemporary professional, hands-on business practice which are delivered by industry experts and/or academic specialists to develop their professional skills and support career development. You will also have free access to LinkedIn Learning to complete courses and a portfolio of knowledge, specific to your career goals.

As a USW student, you will also have access to advice from our Careers and Employability service throughout your studies and when you graduate. They can help with anything from CV building to interview assessments, advice on finding job opportunities and even completing applications.
