Securing a job as a prison officer straight from a lecture was an unexpected but welcome start to my career.

Choosing to study Criminology at the University of South Wales

The Criminology course at USW provided the theories and practical insights needed to shape my career in youth justice. Few UK universities offer such a specialised course, making USW the obvious choice.

With a clear goal of working with children in the youth justice field, this degree provided a tailored pathway to explore that passion. The strong networking opportunities at USW were invaluable - securing a job as a prison officer straight from a lecture was an unexpected but welcome start to my career.

The support from lecturers made a real difference; they are experts in their field and genuinely invested in student success. The interactive course structure, with diverse assessment methods, ensured that every student could thrive. Collaborations with subjects like forensic science and law deepened my understanding of how different disciplines intersect in the criminal justice system.
