The University of South Wales (USW) has been helping Wales Women’s Rugby team to prepare for this year’s Six Nations tournament.

USW’s Sport Park in Treforest has hosted the squad as the players prepare for this year’s first fixture, which will be played in France on Saturday, April 3. Wales then host Ireland at Cardiff Arms Park on Saturday, April 10, with their final game to be confirmed on the weekend of April 24.

The Women’s team had to switch venues for their pre-tournament preparation this year, as the Men’s Six Nations team was training at the usual venue, the WRU National Centre of Excellence in the Vale of Glamorgan. Covid rules meant that both squads could not train there at the same venue.

The Women’s Team have now moved back to the National Centre of Excellence to continue their preparations.

Wales Women Physical Performance Lead Sam Dodge said: “The facility at USW has been pivotal in allowing us to provide a consistent, world-class, training opportunity to our players given the challenges the pandemic has placed on us all.

“Between the gym, indoor barn, GPS allocation and various training pitches, we have been able to train without modifying any of our content and we have seamlessly been able to service a squad of 40-50 athletes to a very high standard.

“I would also like to personally thank the USW staff for their help and support throughout this time.”

Steve Savage, USW’s Head of Sport, said: “We were delighted to host the Women’s squad at USW’s Sport Park over the past few months, providing a base for the team to prepare for their upcoming Six Nations campaign.

“We wish the team all the very best and hope to welcome them back to the Sport Park in the future.”

The games will be shown on BBC terrestrial TV, and will also be available on iPlayer.
