FareShare Cymru benefits from promotional film by USW students

Film students from the University of South Wales (USW) have helped FareShare Cymru – a charity that works to fight food poverty – by creating a promotional film to highlight its vital work in tackling food waste.

The group of students, led by director Arwen Harrison and producer Chloe Parfitt, worked closely with FareShare Cymru as part of their collaborative module during their second year of BA (Hons) Film.

Arwen, 20, from Cardiff, thoroughly enjoyed working on the project. She said: “FareShare were an absolute delight to work with on this film. They were appreciative of our participation in the project and were willing to support our ideas in whatever way possible.

“As an established and reputable charity, FareShare gave us the opportunity to contact partner organisations such as Oasis Cardiff. From this connection we were able to successfully film the FareShare's food redistribution process in a way that highlighted FareShare's key aim, ’fighting hunger, tackling food waste’.”

Katie Padfield, Head of Development at FareShare Cymru, said: “After updating our website last year, we were looking for updated promotional films to go with it. We were keen to show the journey of the food that we work with at FareShare Cymru – from delivery to our Cardiff warehouse, being sorted and packed by volunteers and then making its way to charities and community groups across South Wales.

“We also wanted to highlight the additional impact that food can have when it is distributed to charities and community groups that we work with, as they provide more than just food support to vulnerable people in their communities.

“The students were very efficient and professional in their approach. They worked well as a team, were very open to feedback and have produced a high-quality film that we’re very proud of.”
