The University of South Wales (USW) has been awarded its first Food Made Good accreditation, achieving the maximum three-star rating in recognition of excellence in sustainable food service.

Developed by the Sustainable Restaurant Association, Food Made Good is the leading global sustainability certification for the food service industry, assessing organisations across sourcing, society, and environment.

In its first application, USW achieved an overall score of 72%, including 82% in the environment category. Fewer than 30 universities currently hold this accreditation, with USW becoming only the second university in Wales to achieve full three-star status.

Jason Edwards, Head of Hospitality Services said: “Over the past seven years, USW Catering Services has made sustainability a core priority, from encouraging healthier lifestyle choices to delivering tangible environmental impact.

“Initiatives such as our Welsh Government funded circular economy scheme were among the first of their kind in UK higher education and demonstrate our long-term commitment to responsible food service. We’re proud to work alongside our Sustainability team and look forward to building on this progress over the coming year.”

The Food Made Good accreditation is valid for two years and provides a clear framework for continued improvement as USW strengthens its environmental and social impact.
