Issuu: Accessibility
The University of South Wales is committed to developing websites and publications that are fully inclusive and are actively making every effort to ensure that all pages on the website and our publications comply with accessibility guidelines.
Due to the size and complexity of the University's web presence this is an ongoing process. To make our publication as accessible as possible we offer two ways of accessing, viewing and reading it – one being through the ISSUU platform, and the other being an accessible PDF to view online and download for local use.
The PDF file has been developed to be accessible. We then use this exact file and upload it to ISSUU with the aim being to retain as many of the accessibility features as possible through the platform.
The following accessibility features have been implemented within the PDF file that is subsequently uploaded to ISSUU:
- Indexed the reading order of all pages as articles to display a clear reading order
- All images and symbols have alternative text added for descriptive clarity
- All text is OCR recognisable for reading capabilities
- The document is auto-tagged
- Full screen view and zoom available
- All text in the document is presented as text and not imagery
- Tags are added to indicate a heading structure, so that screen readers understand the flow of information
- Set a PDF file language to help those using screen readers
To improve this further, we are currently working on the following:
- Hyperlinks and video descriptions to be added to ISSUU (for users using audio description)
Have a question?
We are continuously working with ISSUU to identify and improve the areas of this platform that do not meet accessibility requirements or that strip away our accessible PDF features, alongside continuing to improve the accessibility of our PDF file.
