As a new undergraduate student you will be allocated a Personal Academic Coach (PAC) who can help you plan your personal, academic and professional development.

Your PAC supports your overall progress, rather than focussing on individual assignments or modules. They can also direct you to support on financial, health or other issues.

You will:

  • Be assigned a Personal Academic Coach at induction who will be an academic from your subject area.
  • Have individual 20-minute meetings with your PAC toward the end of Autumn and Spring Terms.
  • Discuss your academic progress, course engagement and career aspirations.
  • Agree a plan of action to maximise your potential.
  • Discuss any general issues you may have.

We expect you to:

  • Attend the scheduled meetings, and be prepared to talk openly about how things are going.
  • Bring along any grades and feedback you wish to discuss.
  • Prepare for the meeting by reflecting on your academic progress and how to maximise your potential.
  • Complete and follow an action plan, which you and your coach keep a copy of.

Confidentiality

The meetings with your PAC and your action plans will usually be confidential unless you consent to them being shared. However, if you disclose personal information that causes your PAC concern, for instance where there is risk of serious harm to yourself or other people or there is a legal implication, then under the PAC’s duty of care they will have to involve other support departments as appropriate.
