LGBTQ+ History Month
Ryan George, Illustration student

LGBTQ+ History Month is important to me because it highlights the people, movements, and moments that are often erased from mainstream history, and this directly influences the way I approach my work.

Learning about queer activists, artists, and cultural figures from the past encourages me to create with intention, knowing that visibility and representation have always mattered. The history of protest, self-expression, and resistance reminds me that creative work can be political, even when it is subtle.

This history also shapes the themes I explore and the stories I choose to tell. Understanding that LGBTQ+ lives have existed across cultures and time periods pushes me to challenge stereotypes and avoid treating queerness as something new or temporary.

By drawing on LGBTQ+ history in my work, I aim to contribute to a wider record of representation, honouring those who came before while helping to make space for future generations.
