USW offers incredible support, both academically and beyond, making it the ideal place to pursue your passion.

Why I chose to study Psychology at USW

I’ve always been fascinated by how the mind works and understanding other people, so when I studied Psychology at A-Level, it naturally stood out as my favourite subject. As I started looking into university courses and attending Open Days, my interest grew, and I realised I could pursue Psychology as both a degree and a career. That realisation solidified my decision—it just felt right.

I chose USW because it offered everything I needed. It’s close enough to home to stay connected but far enough away for independence. The campus had such a homely vibe, and the Psychology major-minor course options really sealed the deal for me. Studying broad Psychology alongside developmental disorders allowed me to combine my passion with career goals, making USW the perfect fit.

The Open Days were pivotal in my decision. At the first, I met lecturers, explored the facilities, and gained a clear understanding of the course. By the second, I explored accommodation and extracurriculars, which made USW feel like a family.

Taking advantage of every opportunity given to me

During my time here, I’ve had amazing opportunities, including a placement in the Early Intervention Service at Glyntaff. There, I gained practical experience in behaviour analysis and met industry experts working on groundbreaking research.

My favourite part of the course was visiting the Hydra Suite, where I role-played as an educational psychologist exploring developmental disorders—a highlight that brought everything I’d learned to life.

For anyone considering Psychology, my advice is to research the course thoroughly, ask lots of questions, and embrace all opportunities. USW offers incredible support, both academically and beyond, making it the ideal place to pursue your passion.
