Funding and Support

Key Considerations Before You Go
Accommodation and Living Costs: Where will you stay? What are the costs? How do you secure housing?
Visas and Work Authorisation: Do you need a visa or work permit? What’s the application process? For advice, contact Immigration and International Student Advice.
Language Skills: Are you confident in your language ability? Will you be able to communicate effectively in work and social settings?
Cultural Awareness: Familiarise yourself with local customs and cultural expectations.
Travel Insurance: Standard holiday insurance won’t be enough—you need comprehensive cover. Check if your employer’s insurance covers student-related work injuries or illnesses, as legal protections may differ from those in the UK.
Important: It’s your responsibility to arrange the correct visa and insurance before departure.

Internship Agreements (Required in France & Spain)
If you’re doing an internship in France or Spain, you must complete a Convention de Stage (France) or Convenio de Colaboración (Spain).
This legally required document is a three-way agreement between you, USW, and the host organisation. It must be completed in both English and French/Spanish.
What’s Included in the Convention?
- Internship start and end dates
- Job title
- General tasks and responsibilities
Important: You must complete and submit this well before your internship begins.
Requirements for Internships
- You are responsible for securing your own internship and making all necessary arrangements.
- If proof of registration is needed, student status letters are available on UniLife.
- If the host company requires a university stamp, this can be obtained from the Advice Zone.
- USW will only sign a Convention de Stage if your internship falls within your registration period and you are fully enrolled with up-to-date fee payments.
- Approval of the agreement is at the university’s discretion.
Internship Agreement Process
- Download the Pro-Forma - Available in English, French, and Spanish.
- Complete the Form - Fill in the details with your host organisation in both languages.
- Submit to Your Course Leader - Once reviewed, it will be printed, signed in hard copy (three copies per language), and returned to you.
- Final Signatures & Distribution
- You sign all copies.
- The host organisation signs and stamps them (if needed).
- They return copies to both you and USW.
