There are families struggling to put food on the table. Today. In the UK. For people on low incomes, a sudden crisis such as losing a job or a delay in benefit payments can mean that a family goes hungry.

UK Foodbanks work with local voluntary organisations to provide emergency food and support to people in crisis.

This is how it works: people donate non-perishable food to their local foodbank. Volunteers sort it and pack it into emergency parcels. Care professionals such as doctors, social workers etc. are then able to give people in crisis a voucher so that they can go to the Foodbank and get enough food to last at least three days. At the same time, the people at the Foodbank listen to them and help them if necessary to find more long-term support.

Chaplaincy supports the Foodbank run by local people based in Rhydyfelin. Students and staff are asked to donate, on a regular basis, non-perishable foods such as:

  • tinned food (meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, puddings etc.)
  • long-life liquids (UHT milk, fruit juice etc.)
  • dry food (tea-bags, sugar, breakfast cereal, pasta, rice etc.)

You can bring your donations to the Meeting House on the Treforest Campus or to the Admissions Office in the Aneurin Bevan Building on the Glyntaff Campus, Room GT582.

The Meeting House Group are ready to receive your food donation now. If you are a student, you are also welcome to join the Meeting House Group.
