This programme focuses on key issues in international security – how we can identify and counter them. It explores critical issues, such as terrorism, hybrid warfare and organised crime, and examines how such global risks can be managed by international organisations, governments and companies.

Course Highlights
Module Overview
This course is highly flexible and can be tailored to your needs and preferences. You are required to complete modules worth a total of 180 credits for the successful completion of the course including 7 modules worth 20 credits each and 1 module (research project) worth 40 credits.
All students will complete 8 modules worth 180 credits in total: 6 core modules (20 credits each), 1 optional module (20 credits) and the dissertation module (40 credits).

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
A 2:2 Honours degree in a relevant subject or appropriate professional qualification(s). Relevant subjects include, but are not limited to, Policing, Criminology/Criminal Justice, Sociology, Business Management, Public Services, and Psychology. Your application should demonstrate a clear interest in the course.
Those without the formal qualifications above are encouraged to apply if they have relevant experience in the sector. You will be considered on an individual basis where appropriate experience is taken into account.
The course also provides special access to serving and former armed services personnel.

Please note that whilst this course does not require a DBS Check for entry, some professions will not consider candidates who have certain types of criminal convictions. English language requirements
International applicants will need to have achieved an overall of IELTS 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component/TOEFL 72 overall and a minimum of 18 in reading, 17 in listening, 20 in speaking and 17 in writing or equivalent.

Course Highlights
How you’ll learn
You have the choice to study either online or on campus. You will be taught in small groups, which enables us to make sessions highly interactive and engaging. Our online learning environment, Blackboard, will provide you with high-quality course resources.
The MSc programme also offers students an opportunity to use advanced simulators, like Hydra. This will give you an advantage on the job market as you will be an expert in designing and operating in different scenario-building situations to identify threats and to conceive constructive and tailor-made solutions for complex security scenarios. Students will also have the opportunity to engage in extra-curricular activities, such as EuroSim, which is an annual transatlantic simulation of the European Union. You will be assessed through a range of assignments, including reports and presentations, which will enable you to develop the skills you need for your future career.
Teaching staff
This course is taught by an international team of staff who are all at the cutting-edge of the subject. They are all members of the International Centre for Policing and Security (ICPS), which is the UK's oldest policing and security centre. They have strong expertise that they combine with practical experience. This ensures that you are taught the latest developments on your subject and benefit from their contacts and professional experience. All staff members are engaged in international research projects and events and you will have plenty of opportunities to get involved too.
Facilities
Students will benefit from excellent facilities, which include the Hydra Simulation Centre. It is a unique learning and teaching facility used to conduct immersive, simulated scenarios. Some modules on this course contain a simulation exercise that is run using Hydra. This will help you develop your decision-making and leadership skills.
