National Student Survey
The National Student Survey (NSS) is open to final year undergraduate students and is your chance to have your say about your university experience. It also provides you with the opportunity to tell us how you feel things could be improved.
Why should I take part?
- You can give honest feedback on your learning experience
- Your feedback will be used to improve the learning experience at the University
- The results are taken very seriously and inform the quality assurance system with regards to teaching quality
- Results are used by prospective students to make decisions on what and where to study
More about the NSS
The NSS is a nationally recognised annual survey of final year undergraduates in the UK. The survey provides students with an opportunity to give their opinions on what they liked about their time at University as well as things they felt could have been improved.
The survey is administered by Ipsos, an independent market research agency, so answers remain anonymous at all times.
Free prize draw!
By completing the NSS, you'll be automatically entered into a Prize Draw for a chance to win one of ten £100 gift vouchers. Terms and Conditions apply.
Why we’ve updated information about the prize draw
We’ve published these Terms and Conditions to make the process of the NSS prize draw clear, fair and transparent for all students competing the National Student Survey. Nothing about the survey, who can take part, the prizes, dates, or eligibility requirements have changed.
Winners will be notified by email at the end of May 2026 after the survey has closed.
How do I complete it?
You can find the NSS survey online at www.thestudentsurvey.com.
Your course leader will talk to you in advance about the survey. On or around the 4 February, you will receive an invitation email to complete the survey from Ipsos. Later, non-respondents to the email invitation will also be contacted by post or by telephone.
What happens with the results?
The NSS results are published to help prospective students make informed decisions of where and what to study. The University and the Students’ Union also use the data to identify areas of strengths and weakness. This enables the University to focus efforts on improving the student experience for future generations of students.
Data from previous surveys is available on Discover Uni.
Data protection
Your response is anonymous, so your answers can reflect your genuine perceptions of your experience. There’s no need to worry about your contact details being passed on; they will only be used for the purposes of the NSS and are destroyed shortly after.
A message from the Interim Vice-Chancellor
"My name is Dr James Gravelle and I’m the Interim Vice-Chancellor here at USW.
"A key focus of my role is to ensure that we are providing an outstanding experience for all our students; the feedback that we receive during this survey is incredibly important and it helps us to understand where we are doing well and where we should improve. The questions are about your experience over the duration of your studies and you will have an opportunity to feed back on key areas including the teaching, assessment and feedback and academic support you have experienced throughout your time as a student.
"Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey."
