Callum Hard
What Is Peace
For their Final Major Project, the students were to create a showstopper piece of work; something that encompasses what skills they plan to take forward into industry. Knowing this, Callum has directed, filmed and edited a short film (over 30 minutes) on finding peace within mountain biking, exploring the juxtaposition between what looks exhilarating from the outside, but feels peaceful on the inside.
Lewis Wills
Cloak and Dagger Title Sequence
Lewis Wills, a third-year motion designer, has created a title sequence for the show Cloak and Dagger. Taking into consideration the topics of the show, Lewis has combined practical 2D hand-drawn skills with heavily technical 3D skills, mixing them together to emphasise the opposites that is Cloak and Dagger within the series, not just in the way it looks, but how it was made.
Lucy Clover
The Girl with All the Gifts
For her Final Major Project, Lucy has created a title sequence for the film The Girl with All the Gifts. The basis of Lucy’s method in creating this sequence was to ensure that the topics of the film were reflected in imagery throughout, but also in the texture and hand-made feel. This is a great example of form following function, using 3D techniques purely to drive a hand-drawn effect where needed.
Matthew Parratt
Beyond Human
It was evident that Matthew was going to finish his three years with a bang, which is exactly what has happened here. Beyond Human is a trailer for a film he has created, showcasing a range of heavy industry-standard visual effects throughout utilising the software Nuke. The trailer features a young and troubled super hero; perfect for showcasing both obvious VFX skills (glowing eyes) to more subtle invisible VFX (paint-out’s and footage correction).
Neve Clarke
Story Time
It’s easy to imagine the results of green screen, especially in the day and age of blockbuster releases such as Star Wars and Marvel. What’s less obvious is thinking outside the box of its possibilities; something which Neve has explored at the start of her second year. Integrating live action into a 2D-like setting, Neve has not only accomplished the VFX in this shot, but had also hand-drawn every element of the environment, before realising her future endeavours as an environment artist.
