This course has been designed to enable the student to critically examine the development of effective team relationships and the impact on service delivery within health and social care services. The skills gained on this course can be used in practice as professional registrants working in health and care settings and is ideal for Registered Nurses and Midwives, Paramedics, Social Workers, Health Therapies.

A variety of teaching and learning strategies will be used and themes include:

  • Leadership theories and barriers to effective leadership, communication, project evaluation.
  • Analysis of team roles, working relationships and explore strategies to improve team effectiveness. 
  • Contributing factors to effective team working and the implications for service delivery and service users within health and social care. 
  • Appraisal of contemporary policy and consider strategies for change management to improve sustainability. 
  • Reflection on own leadership behaviours and the implications for team dynamics, thus encouraging independent assessment of issues and critical self-awareness whilst contributing to personal development and the implications for the team leader, organisational development and problem-solving. 

The module will be taught through a combination of interactive lectures, interactive group discussions, workshops, tutorials, blended and enquiry based learning including blackboard, case study material and student presentations and peer learning.

You will be required to study for 200hrs in total, which are broken down as follows:

  • 30hrs Lectures, workshops group work 
  • 5hrs tutorials and supervision
  • 165hrs directed and private study

Lecturers

In order to be accepted onto the course, applicants must be a Registered professional in health or social care.

Formative:

  • Assignment plan by week 9 of the module

Summative: 

  • A 15-minute oral presentation on one of the themes covered in the module linked to leadership and team working (LO1 & 2) (40%)
  • A 3,000 word written assignment critical analysing the impact that leadership has on effective and sustainable service delivery (LO1 & 2) (60%)

Each student will be allocated an Academic Supervisor for the module and will have access to Student Advice and associated support services and peer support.

Each student will be assigned a supervising tutor, for academic guidance and support.
