The course gave the freedom to take risks and venture into new territory whilst building really solid foundations through practical application, tools and hands-on experience.

Growing through the MA experience

Doing the MA Arts Health and Wellbeing at the University of South Wales provided an amazing and transformative opportunity to dedicate time to my practice and grow as a practitioner. It offered a unique and supportive environment where I could bring different elements of my work together in exciting and new ways, pushing myself out of my comfort zone, and creating new avenues of understanding. It gave the freedom to take risks and venture into new territory whilst building really solid foundations through practical application, tools and hands-on experience. It helped me understand my practice within the Arts, Health and Wellbeing field and gave me greater context for my work.

The course welcomes and accommodates such a broad range of practices and approaches within the field of Arts, Health and Wellbeing, making for such richness and diversity in perspectives, creative skills and experiences from other students which enhanced and supported the learning alongside each other. The size of the cohort and the extensive experience of the tutors, along with visiting artists was invaluable in facilitating great discussion, exploration and community for learning.

The part-time structure of the course was great for balancing other work commitments, with its monthly weekend intensives and online tutorials making it accessible alongside other aspects of my life.

Looking ahead and continuing to grow

While returning to education was challenging, especially adjusting to academic demands, the 18-month journey was incredibly rewarding. I found it satisfying to grow and develop new skills, and it has set me up for the next stage of my career in Arts and Health.

Since completing the course, I’ve found new opportunities within Arts, Health and Wellbeing that I wouldn’t have had otherwise, and the tools and knowledge I gained continue to support and inspire me in my work. The ongoing contact and support of the cohort and community has helped sustain my learning and development, and I am excited and driven to continue in this area.

Looking back, I’m so glad I did the course - it has transformed my practice and continues to help me grow and evolve.
