Whether you’re joining us for the first time or returning for another year, enrolment and attendance monitoring are important steps — and the good news is, everything you need to know is right here.

How to enrol

If you are studying with us on a Student Route visa, are an EU/EEA/Swiss student with permission under the EU Settlement Scheme or have another other type of immigration permission, you will be subject to specific enrolment checks before you are eligible to enrol.  

  • Set up and log in to your new student account.
  • You must complete pre-enrolment checks before accessing the questionnaire.
  • Complete the enrolment questionnaire.
    • You'll upload a photo for your student ID card.
    • Select optional modules (if available).
    • Accept the Terms & Conditions.
Enrol online

Students are expected to make arrangements to arrive in the UK for the course start date confirmed on offer letters as this results in the best student experience for you. If there is a valid reason why you are not going to be able to arrive for your course start date, please contact [email protected]

If you are a student studying at the University of South Wales or at the USW QAHE Pathway College on a Student route visa and are enrolling on your course for the first time, or you have studied with us previously and are progressing to a new course of study, you will have digital status visa and you will be expected to provide your E-visa share code at enrolment. 

If you don’t have digital status, before you can enrol on your course you must: 

If you have a digital immigration status you will need to complete an online form and then attend an in-person appointment. If you have status under the EU Settlement Scheme, please see the specific enrolment checks information below.

Before you show up for your enrolment appointment, please make sure you have uploaded your electronic visa share code to CAS shield. You will need to provide the share code at your session if you haven't uploaded it before. You may find more details on eVisas and share codes here. GOV.UK's online immigration status (eVisa)

  • Set up your IT account
  • Complete specific enrolment checks in person

If you are a Tier 4/Student Route student and have updated your immigration documents since your last point of enrolment, you are required to submit copies of the documents detailed below for enrolment checks:

To provide these documents, you will need to visit us at one of our on-campus locations (listed below). If you are a returning student and there is no change to your immigration documents, there is no requirement to visit our enrolment team on campus.

You need to make an appointment in order to see our enrolment staff. Please make an appointment before visiting the campus as personnel may not be able to assist you. You might be asked to return at a later time if you visit without an appointment.

If you do not have a physical visa (sticker in your passport) then you need to fill in the correct form below before attending an in-person check: 

If you have digital status, not under the EU Settlement Scheme, the information must be completed on the Immigration and International Student Advice team’s form before you enrol.

If you have a status under the EU Settlement Scheme, please complete this IISA form.

How to enrol

If you are studying with us on a Student Route visa, are an EU/EEA/Swiss student with permission under the EU Settlement Scheme or have another other type of immigration permission, you will be subject to specific enrolment checks before you are eligible to enrol.

Students are expected to be enrolled by the start of their course. You can find the commencement date of the course on your CAS. If you do not enrol, we will be required to notify the UKVI (Home Office) that you have failed to enrol and they may curtail (shorten) your visa.

A note on your address:  Please read - Important

If you are a Student Route student studying at one of our South Wales campuses, you must have a commutable term time address in the South Wales/South West area in order to attend the University. Therefore, you will also be expected to provide contact details including: 

  • your overseas ‘home’ address 
  • your UK ‘term-time’ address 
  • a UK telephone number (if you have one) 

Induction and Getting ready to learn

To prepare and support you with your transition to your studies at the University of South Wales, we would like you to read Getting Ready to Learn. You will meet your fellow students and teaching team at your course induction events which we expect you to attend.

Student ID card

Once you are enrolled we will provide you with your student ID card. This is a multi purpose SMART ID card which will give you access to Library services, door entry and other facilities during your studies. You can collect this from the library once enrolment has been completed.

Immigration and International Student Advice Team 

The Immigration & International Student Advice (IISA) team’s main area of expertise is in the immigration law and associated regulations.  The team offer specialised advice and information for international students and their dependants. They also offer a dedicated advice service for non-academic, welfare-related matters and provide opportunities that improve the international student experience and promote internationalisation on our campuses. If you are a Tier 4/Student Route student, or a student who is subject to immigration control, returning to enrol on the next year of your course at the University of South Wales, or you are required to repeat elements of your course, before you can enrol you must:

Pay 50% of your course fees. Please see the information on the Payment Hub on how to pay or contact Revenue on (+44) (0)1443 483340.  If your government or another organisation are paying for your course fees, please bring your letter from your sponsor.  

Complete specific enrolment checks 

If you are a Tier 4/Student Route student and have updated your immigration documents since your last point of enrolment, you are required to submit copies of the documents detailed below for enrolment checks:

Student ID cards

The Student ID card issued to you when you first enrolled at the University will be valid for the duration of your studies, and we will not issue a new one each year.  

As part of its Sponsor Licence duties, the University is required to ensure that all students hold appropriate immigration permission to study in the UK for the full length of their course.  As a result of your application, or fee assessment, the University has identified that you are, or have been, subject to immigration control in the UK.  Therefore, until we have checked your immigration permission, you are unable to enrol online.    

If you hold another immigration permission, then you will be invited to undertake a Right to Study check with our Immigration and International Student Advice team prior to completing enrolment.  As part of this check, you will need to provide a copy of your passport along with your visa or immigration permission (where required).  

You will need to fill in the online Right to Study Check form and upload the required documents.  In most cases, we will try to undertake these checks in person.  However, in some cases we can offer a distance service, please contact us if you are unable to meet with us in person.   

Once this check has been completed, you will be able to enrol. 

Student ID cards

The Student ID card issued to you when you first enrolled at the University will be valid for the duration of your studies, and we will not issue a new one each year. 

As part of its Sponsor Licence duties, the University is required to ensure that all students hold appropriate immigration permission to study in the UK for the full length of their course. As a result of your application, or fee assessment, the University has identified that you are, or have been, subject to immigration control in the UK as you are an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen.  Therefore, until we have checked your immigration permission, you are unable to enrol online.  

As part of this check, you will need to provide a copy of your passport along with your EU Settlement Scheme reference number and Share Code. If you are unsure of your Share Code you can obtain it at the following link https://www.gov.uk/view-prove-immigration-status   

You need to fill in our online EU Settlement Scheme Right to Study Check form and upload the required documents.  In most cases we will try to undertake these checks in person. However, in some cases we are able to offer a distance service, please contact us if you are unable to meet with us in person.  

Once this check has been completed, you will be able to enrol. 

Student ID cards 

The Student ID card issued to you when you first enrolled at the University will be valid for the duration of your studies and we will not issue a new one each year.   

Teaching Timetables

Your teaching timetable shows the schedule for your lectures, seminars, workshops, and other course-related sessions. It includes the times, locations of your regular academic classes. Your teaching timetable will be available 48 hours from completing your university IT account set-up.

Your student ID card

After setting up your IT account and completing online enrolment, you'll be issued with a Student Smart ID. 

You will be issued with a student ID card in the first year of your course. Your ID card will remain valid for the duration of your course and will not be re-issued annually. The expiry date is shown on the card.

Access to Healthcare

As an international student at USW, you can access most NHS services if you’ve paid the immigration health surcharge and are on a full-time course of six months or more.

Make sure to register with a local GP and the USW Health Team—they offer free support for everything from minor illnesses to mental health. If you’re 25 or under, it’s recommended to get the Meningitis ACWY vaccine and ensure you're up to date with routine vaccinations.

Driving in the UK

Before you start driving in the UK, make sure you:

  • Have a valid and current driving licence

  • Are properly insured

  • Are driving a vehicle that’s registered in your name

  • Have up-to-date road tax (some exceptions apply)
