Don’t fall into the trap of "can't get a job without experience, can't get experience without a job".

The on-site Early Intervention Service at the University of South Wales provides placements to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Placements offer students the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios, and enhance understanding of psychological principles and therapeutic techniques. Hands-on experience allows students to develop essential skills and competencies that can positively affect employability. Placements also afford the opportunity to develop technical skills whilst working alongside experienced clinicians and therapists.

Undergraduate

If you're a Psychology student, and passionate about working with children with additional learning needs or just want to know more about behaviour analysis in practice, here’s your chance. Every USW undergraduate Psychology and Childhood Development student is guaranteed, if they want it during their studies, a six-week placement in the Early Intervention Service (EIS).

Our service provides a unique opportunity to work alongside a team of doctoral-level behaviour analysts, young children with developmental delays, and higher-level students such as Masters and PhD students. Not only can you add much-needed experience to your CV, but you can also help your academic studies by seeing the theories you are learning about in class being used in clinical practice.

At the EIS, students work through a tiered training hierarchy to promote development of technical and professional skills. To apply for a placement in the 2024-25 academic year, please complete the application form.

We offer three levels of training in a tiered training hierarchy to train students to be effective therapists.

Research Internship

The research internship at the Behaviour Analysis Clinic provides our students with an opportunity to experience applied research through our Early Intervention Service (EIS). The internship accommodates students from both undergraduate and postgraduate psychology courses. Students acquire the knowledge and skills to conduct high-quality research in applied settings and work alongside staff coordinating research projects within campus clinics and in our local community.
