Behaviour Analysis Clinic

Our Story

The Early Intervention Service first opened in 2012. The aim was to provide a much-needed service to children and their families, alongside valuable and meaningful placements to students at USW.

The first few years, our team consisted of two staff members, alongside a handful of students, operating out of a small classroom with very little resources, for 2 hours per day. We provided valuable experiences to all our students, while helping children develop necessary life skills. Twelve years’ later, we occupy two buildings with outdoor play space, fantastic resources and a team of expert professionals. We are registered as a full day care nursery with Care Inspectorate Wales, and we provide around 80-100 placements per year to our UG and PG students. Although we may have grown, our aim and goal for the Early Intervention Service remains the same. We provide a meaningful and valuable placement to each student, and we work alongside parents to help each child reach their potential.

About Us

Applied Behaviour Analysis is a scientific approach to understanding human behaviour and how people learn. Research suggests that interventions and teaching strategies based on this science can be effective in helping people with developmental delays learn valuable language, communication, play, and self-help skills, while reducing less adaptive behaviour such as aggression, property destruction, and self-harm. Behaviour analysts use objective and systematic data collection to ensure that interventions and teaching strategies are effective, address the unique needs of the individual, and are liked by the people they work with.

Behaviour analysis in the UK is regulated by the UK Society for Behaviour Analysis (UK-SBA). If you would like to learn more about behaviour analysis and its evidence-base, you can find more information on the UK-SBA website.
