USW Teachers' and Advisers' Awards
The University of South Wales Teachers’ and Advisers’ Awards 2025–26 celebrate the outstanding work of teachers and advisers from sixth forms, colleges, and alternative education providers across the UK, recognising those who have made a real difference to students’ journeys and future aspirations.

The winners of the sixth annual University of South Wales Teachers’ and Advisers’ Awards have been announced.
On Thursday, 2nd July we hosted the Awards at our Treforest campus, supported by Reaching Wider. The accolades were awarded to teachers and advisers from secondary schools and colleges across the UK who demonstrated excellence in four categories in the 2025-26 academic year. Each award winner received £500 towards CPD and/or staff wellbeing initiatives at their school or college.
The categories included:
- Outstanding Pastoral and Wellbeing Support
- Supporting Progression to Higher Education
- Inspirational Teacher or Adviser of the Year
- Champion of Widening Participation
We were thrilled with the response to the awards, having received over 100 nominations. The judging panel faced a difficult decision in selecting a winner for each category, given the high calibre of submissions. The entries showcased the remarkable individuals across the UK who are deeply committed to helping the next generation realise their full potential. Stay tuned for updates on next year's awards!
Outstanding Pastoral and Wellbeing Support – Kane Amos, Learner Formation Lead at St David’s Catholic College. Kane was nominated by their colleague Kate.
Supporting Progression to Higher Education – Melissa Wilson, Careers Coach at Cardiff and Vale College. Melissa was nominated by colleague Liz Lewis.
Inspirational Teacher or Adviser of the Year – Tina Bryant, Head of Religious Studies and Sixth Form Tutor, at Caldicot School & Sixth Form. Tina was nominated by two students from the school.
Champion of Widening Participation – Sharon Westhead, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator at Archbishop Blanch CofE Sixth Form. Sharon was nominated by one of her students.
Highly commended – Darren Church, Film and media studies teacher at Exeter College. Darren was nominated by a group of his students.
