USW Learning and Teaching Conference

Our flagship learning and teaching event brings together staff from across the USW Group to celebrate and share good practice, innovation and research in learning, teaching and assessment.

A lecture theatre full of conference attendees listening to a speaker on the stage.

The University’s annual Learning and Teaching Conference brings together colleagues from USW, our collaborative partners, and other universities to explore our teaching practices, showcase our Curriculum 2030 strategy, and investigate key themes in higher education.

USW hosts regular learning and teaching events and seminars to celebrate and share the best practices in learning, teaching and assessment across the University and its partners. After the success of the first USW Learning and Teaching Conference in 2015, it became an annual event, with additional specialised events and conferences held at different times during the year.

NICE TO SEE EXAMPLES FROM ACROSS THE DIFFERENT FACULTIES AND COME ACROSS OTHER LIKE-MINDED STAFF WE'D NEVER ENCOUNTER OTHERWISE.

REALLY ENJOYED SEEING THE WORK THAT IS BEING DONE AND HOW IT ENCOURAGES CRITICAL THINKING, PROBLEM SOLVING AND COLLABORATION.

USW Learning and Teaching Conference 2024: Embracing challenge-based learning

USW’s Learning and Teaching Conference 2024, held at the Atrium campus in Cardiff, built on the success of the previous year. Focused on challenge-based learning, the event explored transformative educational practices at USW and beyond. The in-person gathering served as a platform for integrating theory with practice, inviting colleagues to explore the integration of authentic, unresolved challenges into curriculum and assessment strategies.

In line with our Curriculum Design Principles, the 2024 conference adopted a format comprising thought-provoking discussions and shared practical experiences and activities. Participants engaged in lively conversations, reflecting on the impact of challenge-based learning on teaching methodologies and student outcomes.
