MA Leadership and Management (Education) is for those who are, or aspire to be, leaders or managers in an educational setting. You may already be working in school settings or other institutions, such as the health service or the police force.

DESIGNED FOR

This postgraduate course is suitable for those working within a nursery setting through to those working in an adult learning environment.

Module Overview

You will take the following two specialist leadership and management modules.

Developing Learning in Organisations
Topics covered include the management of learning, the wellbeing agenda, the role of senior managers and the management of new curriculum initiatives, assessment for learning, parental and community participation.

Developing People in Organisations
This module will appeal to those working as, or aspiring to be, leaders in institutions with an educational setting. Topics covered include team building, effective leadership, appraisal and mentoring and managing change in organisations. Different leadership models are considered alongside national initiatives.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Typical qualification requirements:

You should be a graduate or, if you’re a non-graduate, you will need relevant experience. For those students who have already obtained a professional qualification (for example a NPQH) it may be possible to accredit prior learning or achievement for this work, provided that a bridging assignment is submitted (a fee of £100 is charged for supporting and assessing this assignment).

Additional requirements include:

  • Full-time and part-time students choosing modules which have a placement component as part of the assessment process, will need to provide evidence of a current enhanced DBS check (or its equivalent if you are an EU or international student).
  • Full-time students wishing to take advantage of the opportunity to participate in the internship scheme, will also need to provide evidence of a current enhanced DBS check (or its equivalent if an EU or international student).

English language requirements

International applicants will need to have achieved an overall of IELTS 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component/TOEFL 72 overall and a minimum of 18 in reading, 17 in listening, 20 in speaking and 17 in writing or equivalent.

Studying at university is one of the most significant investments you'll ever make. Whilst you’re studying, you’ll have two main financial obligations – tuition fees and living costs. There’s lots of financial help available from the University of South Wales and external funding sources, that may provide loans (which have to be paid back) and grants, scholarships and bursaries (that don't).

Additional Costs

As a student of USW, you’ll have access to lots of free resources to support your study and learning, such as textbooks, publications, online journals, laptops, and plenty of remote-access resources. Whilst in most cases these resources are more than sufficient in supporting you with completing your course, additional costs, both obligatory and optional, may be required or requested for the likes of travel, memberships, experience days, stationery, printing, or equipment.
