Widening Participation Activity 2026

We pride ourselves on delivering meaningful content in response to need. We have a number of established community programmes, but always welcome new ideas and opportunities for collaboration.

HE4ME is designed specifically for Level 3 Year 1 students in our partner colleges with a programme of engaging information, advice and guidance and bespoke campus visits.

HE4ME is funded by Reaching Wider.

FirstStep is a bespoke campus visit day for individuals who will be the first in their immediate family to attend university. The day consists of bespoke information advice and guidance, as well as student life content and an ongoing programme of hybrid one to one application support.

Care Café is a coffee morning drop-in service for those who have experience of local authority care or have caring responsibilities. University staff from across a range of departments are available to discuss the support available and provide advice and guidance on applying and accessing that support post enrolment.

One USW is a bespoke campus visit day designed collaboratively with our University of Sanctuary Champion specifically to support individuals who are seeking asylum, have refugee status, or for whom English is not their first language. The day provides individuals with a taste of university life, as well as access to the correct support teams to assist with their application and ensure a smooth transition to studying at university.

Creative Forces days are designed in collaboration with SSCE Cymru to deliver bespoke taster sessions to the families of the UK Armed Forces.

USW Summer School is an immersive experience of student life for individuals from underrepresented background. Taking place annually in July, our Summer School boasts a range of engaging subject sessions, enrichment activities and student life content.

We are committed to supporting any individual or group who may have an interest in progressing to higher education, regardless of background. If you feel you, or a group you support could benefit from our support, we’d love to hear from you.
