The Need
Run 4 Wales required extensive logistical support for their annual Newport Marathon event. The challenge was not only the sheer number of participants but also the need for suitable facilities close to the start/finish line to manage operations smoothly.
The USW Newport campus, ideally located on the start/finish line, became the perfect partner, offering the required physical infrastructure and additional expert support.
The solution
The USW team collaborated closely with Run 4 Wales to provide an optimal setup for race day. This included offering their campus building for key operational needs such as a volunteer hub and media centre. Despite challenges such as staffing on weekends and the need for last-minute preparations, USW ensured all facilities were ready and available. The Events Team’s proactive approach included digital advertisements to promote open days, and on-the-ground support that significantly contributed to the event’s success. The event, which was officially started on the day by Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Louise Bright alongside ABP Ashley Curnow, received positive local and national press coverage, much of which highlighted the USW’s involvement in making the day a huge success. As well as sponsoring and supporting event logistics, USW hosted a popular event village stand for branded merchandise and promotion of its Newport campus courses.
