Coursework Submission
This page gives an overview of how to submit coursework. For more specific information, see your course's pages on Blackboard.
For more general information about assessments see Assessment Information and Support.
Your module tutor will provide a formal coursework brief which should be located on Blackboard.
It’s your responsibility to submit the right piece of work, using the correct submission method, before the deadline.
Check the deadline submission date and time with your module tutor or on Blackboard.
Usually coursework must be submitted by 4.00pm (hard copy submission) or 11.59pm (online submission) on the deadline date.
You can submit coursework early if this helps with your time management.
Your responsibilities
Submit in the format indicated in the brief or you could receive a zero mark.
Clearly label your work as per the instructions in the assessment brief.
Retain a copy of any receipt issued following submission as you may need to present it at a later date.
Do not email your final assessment directly to the module tutor. This is not an approved method of submission.
If you have any questions or are unsure of any instructions contact your module tutor.
Online Submissions
All online coursework submissions are done through Blackboard. Within Blackboard there are two main assignment submission tools:
- Blackboard Assignment - This is Blackboard’s built-in assignment tool. When you submit you will be given a submission confirmation number, and you can download a receipt. You will also be sent an email confirmation to your USW student email address.
- Turnitin Assignments - This is a third-party tool that is used directly inside Blackboard. You do not go outside of Blackboard to submit Turnitin Assignments. You will be able to download a digital receipt after you have submitted.
The University operates a 'fit to sit' policy which means that by submitting coursework you are declaring yourself as fit to do so. You cannot subsequentyly claim you were unfit due to circumstances or illness affecting your performance.
The University operates a strict policy on late submissions, see the "Late submission of coursework" section of the Regulations for Taught Courses, so always submit your assessment by the deadline date/time.
If you submit after the allocated time on the deadline date, this will be considered a late submission and will affect your grade.
Students can submit assessments, including coursework, in Welsh whether they’re studying on a Welsh-medium course or not.
Students who wish to submit a piece of coursework in Welsh should contact their lecturer as soon as possible to make the necessary arrangements. At the very latest students must inform their lecturer 3 weeks before the assignment deadline.
The University will seek the relevant lecturer who will be able to mark and assess the work or arrange to translate the work into English.

We strongly recommend that you back up all the files related to your coursework regularly. That includes the coursework brief, your notes, research materials and drafts and the finished version of the work you are submitting.
Keep copies of them in at least two physically separate locations, for example:
- On your computer's internal drive
- On an external drive stored at a separate physical location
- On Microsoft OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox
Keep these backups even after submission, in case you are required to provide them to the University for any reason, to help you evaluate your progress over time, and for your own reference, for example when revising.
