LGBTQ Support and Information
There are a number of sources of support, advice and information for students and staff of the University that identify as LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and other sexual orientations and gender identities).
LGBTQ+ Role Models
USW LGBTQ+ Role Models are volunteer members of staff who are passionate about promoting LGBTQ+ equality within the University and committed to being visible role models, conveying the important message that people can be themselves at the University and can be accepted without exception.
The LGBTQ+ Role Models are points of contact for students (or staff) who are encountering an LGBTQ+ issue they would like to talk through with an LGBTQ+ person. They also provide ideas, support and advice on the development of LGBTQ+ equality to the university.
Students' Union
The Students’ Union’s LGBTQ+ Society is a safe place for people of all sexualities to come together in a social manner, with no fear of judgement.
The Students’ Union sometimes has liberation Campaign Officers campaigning for LGBTQ+ matters, depending on interest in the roles and elections.
The Students’ Union Welfare Officers can support you if you need support around bullying and harassment.
Bullying and/or harassment
The University recognises that all staff and students should be valued and have a right to be treated with dignity and respect at work and study. The Dignity at Study Policy explains how the University handles complaints about harassment, bullying, unfair treatment and victimisation.
The Students’ Union also has a policy on LGBTQ+ related bullying and harassment, please contact the SU for details.
Report and Support
Everyone at the University of South Wales has the right to feel safe and supported.
If you experience or witness an incident of concern, you can tell us by submitting a form on this website.
