Choosing the University of South Wales to study Accounting and Finance

Lowri opted for the University of South Wales as her starting point towards becoming an accountant because of its comprehensive Accounting and Finance program, specifically because “USW offers modules concerning fraud and forensic accounting, which is the area in which I would like to specialise."

Throughout her time at USW, Lowri acquired essential skills, including proficiency in software and practical experience in financial data analysis. She believes "The use of different software such as Sage, IDEA, and Autopsy have helped with my learning. It has allowed me to become more confident within myself."

She secured an industry placement at Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council's Accountancy Department, which not only provided invaluable skills but also led to a part-time position and a job offer from The Wallich post-graduation.

Getting career-ready at the University

Lowri relied on support services like Careers Connect and Study Skills for personalised advice on job applications, CVs, and interview preparation. She advocates future students utilise these services and the chance to take up an industry placement. "Take every opportunity available at university when it comes to meeting prospective companies you could work for and definitely think about a year in industry."

Her journey at USW has equipped her with a solid foundation in accounting and forensic accounting, setting her on a path to a gratifying career. "I am so pleased that I decided to take the plunge and go to university and study for a degree within the field I have always aspired to go into."
