Upgraded Offer Scheme
All applicants showing a level of commitment to USW through attending an Applicant Experience Day, will be given an Unconditional offer based on this and their predicted grades. This initiative means we can continue to support you as a prospective student, relieve the burden of offer uncertainty, all with the aim of supporting academic focus and ultimately success, as you continue to study for and sit your exams.
What is an Unconditional offer?
An Unconditional offer provides a guaranteed place to study on the course you applied for at University of South Wales. It’s not dependent upon results. However, we’d still encourage you to put every effort in to achieve good grades in your final results. An Unconditional offer considers your academic profile, which we believe you would want to protect and enhance.
More frequently asked questions
We know you may have more questions about this scheme, the admissions process and our Applicant Experience Days, we’ve compiled a list of FAQs to try to answer your questions.
We’ll process your application and, if we are able to do so, will make you an offer based on the entry requirements for the course you’ve applied to study and your predicted grades, or we will aim to offer a suitable alternative course if we cannot make an offer for the course to which you originally applied. Your offer will be sent to you by email and, if you applied through UCAS, will appear on your UCAS Hub. If you applied via the USW application, it will appear on your Applicant portal.
You’ll be invited to an Applicant Experience Day (non-interviewing courses). An invitation will be sent via e-mail, and you will need to log into your Applicant portal to book one of our available dates.
Take part in a sample activity related to your chosen subject, meet your future lecturers and classmates, tour our accommodation and chat to our support services – you can do all this and more at an Applicant Experience Day.
Depending on the conditions of your offer, we hope to be able to make the majority of applicants an Unconditional offer following attendance and engagement at one of our Applicant Experience Days. Please see our terms and conditions below for further information.

A portfolio could include examples of work from your current or previous course, and/ or examples of any creative work that does not form part of your course which you may have completed in your own time. There is no minimum or maximum number of pieces of work required, however should you have a large portfolio, it would be advisable to select a few of your favourite pieces to discuss. Portfolio discussions will last no longer than 15 minutes.
If you’re applying for the above creative courses but don’t have a formal portfolio, don’t worry, you will not be disadvantaged and will still be considered for the upgrade scheme. You are encouraged to bring along examples of your work wherever possible, however, this is not essential.
If your offer is upgraded to Unconditional, you will be sent a new offer email and if you applied via UCAS, the Unconditional offer will appear in your UCAS Hub. If you applied via the USW application form, it will appear on your Applicant Portal once you log in.
Not at all. An Unconditional offer considers your academic profile, which we believe you would want to protect and enhance. The grades you achieve will remain with you for the rest of your life, including on your CV and job applications. Your current studies also lay the foundation for university, improving your knowledge and study skills, making you more likely to succeed in future. You should continue to study your Level 3 course(s) but be secure in the knowledge that you have a place.
If this does happen, please don’t panic as your offer of a place will be unaffected. If you accept the University of South Wales as your firm choice, we will send you enrolment and induction information in the summer.
This offer is only available to UK/Home applicants, and this will be determined by information entered onto your application.
There is no priority application process for accommodation for Unconditional offer holders but some of our accommodation is likely to be allocated on a first come, first served basis. You are encouraged to apply for accommodation and pay your holding deposit as soon as you firmly accept your offer from USW.
Yes, your Unconditional offer can be deferred, but please do not make the decision to defer until later on in the summer if you’re not 100% sure. Get your finance and any accommodation in place (just in case you change your mind) and you can always defer nearer to the start of your course if you feel this is the right decision for you. If you have any questions about deferring, please contact [email protected].
If you accept an Unconditional offer as Firm, you won’t be able to accept an Insurance choice as well. You can only accept both a Firm and Insurance choice if these are Conditional offers (and not Unconditional). Should you accept a Firm and Insurance Conditional offer, if your Firm choice university changes your offer to Unconditional, this means your place is confirmed and you will receive enrolment and induction information in the summer before your course starts.
Your upgraded offer is specific to the course you have received an offer for, as we’ve taken your predicted grades into consideration when making this offer. Should your achieved grades be significantly higher than those initially predicted, we may be able to make you an offer for the degree. You should contact [email protected] once you receive your results to discuss this.
If you attended the Applicant Experience Day and did not scan or register on the day, your offer will not be upgraded. Should you wish to appeal this decision as you were in fact present at the event, you should contact [email protected] in the first instance.
