Our advice
Find out about support
If you’re starting university with a long-term health condition or disability — whether it’s physical, sensory, related to mental health, a specific learning difficulty like dyslexia, or autism — we’re here to help. USW has dedicated support services available to all students. If you're not sure if you're eligible or just have questions, don’t hesitate to contact the Disability Service. They're happy to chat things through with you.
Student Support ServiceApply for student finance
If you’re eligible for Student Finance, make sure you’ve submitted your application to the right funding body and sent in any documents they’ve asked for. It’s a good idea to apply as early as you can so there’s plenty of time for everything to be processed.
Managing your money might feel overwhelming especially if it’s your first time handling your own finances, but setting up a budget and choosing a good student bank account can really help. Don’t forget to check out our cost of living support for extra tips and advice!
Cost of Living supportConfirm your accommodation
You’ll be sent an accommodation request form by email once your place at USW is confirmed as unconditional firm and you’re eligible to enrol in your course.
If you’re an international student, don’t forget you’ll also need a valid visa application.
If you've confirmed your accommodation and are looking forward to moving in, we’ve put together a quick checklist of what you’ll need to bring with you, to (hopefully) make sure that you don’t leave anything important at home!
Packing checklistCheck your vaccinations
Being up-to-date with all vaccinations is important for everyone, but even more so if you are a student starting university as you will be meeting, mixing, and living with lots of new people.
We recommend that you check with your GP before starting university whether you need any vaccinations.
All new USW students should register with the USW Health Service and a local GP.
