From financial support and advice to general welfare support, we want to make sure nothing impacts your studies, student experience, mental health and general wellbeing.

Electricity and utility bills

Worried about budgeting for your energy bills? Don’t worry – you are not alone. Here is support which you could be eligible for from the government as well as from USW along with potential discounts on other utilities like your phone tariff and internet.

Help with food

We understand that the cost-of-living crisis is impacting all aspects of life, including the price of home and food essentials. To help, we've put together some guidance on how to make your money go further – whether that’s through discounted takeaways, money off your shopping, or tips on how to make tasty home-cooked meals without draining your wallet.

Help with transport

If you are required to travel further than our university campuses, why not consider using a bike? Cardiff runs a public Ovo bike rental scheme and Newport offers private bike rentals if you do not own one. Public transport can also be a cost-effective way to travel between locations. If you do have to drive for work placements while you study, you may be able to claim the cost back.

Head to one of our study spaces if you’re looking for somewhere warm while you learn without raising your energy bills. Our libraries are open long hours and offer a variety of study areas.

If you are looking to earn extra cash while you study, our careers service can help you find a part-time job. You could also become a USW ambassador or content creator to work flexibly while you study.

Fees and Funding

Bursaries are one of the many ways the University can offer our students financial support, and if you meet the requirements, USW students can gain access to different forms of funding, providing some relief to financial hardship caused by current economic conditions.
