Future Ready Fund 2026/27

The University of South Wales is offering eligible full-time students £1,000 paid directly to them in their first year of studies.

Terms and Conditions

To be eligible, you need to meet all the following criteria:

  • Be classed as a home student. 
  • Be eligible for UK student finance maintenance support from Student Finance Wales (SFW), Student Finance England (SFE), Student Finance Northern Ireland (SFNI) or Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS)  
  • Have a household income of below £25,000 year as assessed by SFW, SFE, SFNI or SAAS 
  • Be studying at a USW campus - Pontypridd (Treforest, Glyntaff and Sport Park), Cardiff, Newport 
  • Be enrolled on year 1 or year 0 of a full time eligible undergraduate degree lasting 3 or more years starting in September 2026. 
  • Apply to USW and firmly accept USW’s offer by the UCAS decline by default deadline in May 2026. 
  • Be approved for Student Finance funding by 31st July 2026. 

You are not eligible for the bursary if you are studying one of the following courses:

As long as you meet all of the eligibility criteria, you will automatically be awarded the bursary. 

Eligible students will receive £1,000 paid directly to them in their first year of studies only.  

You will be informed of your eligibility after enrolment by the end of October 2026. Payment will be made by the end of November 2026. 

No, the bursary is only available in your first year of studies.

If you leave before you have received the payment in the first term, you will not be eligible to receive the payment. 

If you leave after you have received the payment, you are entitled to keep it. 

No, the Future Ready Fund is only available to students who the University has identified as UK home students. 

If you are planning to start your course in September 2027, you will need to check the details of any bursary or scholarship scheme available to new students starting in September 2027 and fulfil the eligibility criteria relating to that scheme, including making an application at that time if appropriate. 

You will still be eligible to receive payment at the intended time if you transfer to another eligible course.
