Online Pre-Sessional Courses

Despite the courses being online, you will be grouped into small classes (usually around ten students in each class) and all students will be expected to be an active member in this class. Students who do not fully participate are likely to fail the course.

We expect you to:

• Attend all classes
• Find a quiet space to attend the class where you will not be disturbed
• Participate in class activities
• Interact and engage with the teacher.
• Interact and engage with other students.
• Turn phones off and focus on classes.
• Complete any coursework and assessments set during the course.
• Speak as much English as possible.

Internet Connection

You must have a reliable internet connection for the duration of the course. It is your responsibility to check that you have a good Internet connection.

Laptop / Desktop Access

You must access online classes on laptop or desktop computers and NOT on mobile / cell phones. You need to be able to see clearly what is being presented in the class and mobile phones are too small.

Cameras

For learning to happen, teachers need to see students and students need to see each other. You must keep your camera on for the duration of the class. If your teacher asks you to turn your camera on then you must do so. You must show your whole face so that the teacher can see that you are engaged.

Translation Software

Do not use translation software during the sessions. it is very easy for teachers to know when this software is being used and these programs do not help you to improve your English level.

Suitable Study Environment

During the lessons, you need to be in an environment that is suitable for extended study. This should be a quiet area where you will not be interrupted or disturbed.

You are expected to do homework every day. You are also expected to do independent study outside of class time. All of this work is designed to help you to pass the pre-sessional course and be prepared for a UK university study environment.
