Our Chinese students find the support of our excellent English language centre invaluable both prior to and during their studies. They have also enjoyed participating in our well-established clubs and societies, which enable them to integrate into UK student life. Students from China have appreciated the scholarships made available by the University and have enjoyed the high standard but relatively low cost of living that South Wales offers.

Proficiency in the English language is essential and, for courses at degree level or above. The University recognises a range of English language qualifications.

USW also run English tests in China regularly, please contact us for more information.

Don’t worry if you do not meet the requirements! We run a number of courses to prepare you for your studies. Please visit our Centre for International English pages for more information.

The students who intend to study in our university can apply directly online. Undergraduate students can also apply through UCAS. Students can also apply our university through the approved educational advisor from our approved agents.

Entry requirement for undergraduate studies

  • The University accept students having completed Secondary High School study onto Year one of a USW Bachelor degree
  • Successfully completing 3-year Secondary High School study and attained the Chinese University Entrance Examination (Gaokao)
  • Holders of the High School Graduation Certificate with an average of 60% or above
  • Holders of the High School Graduation Certificate with an average of 75% or above in Huikao
  • Holders of a Graduation Certificate from a Senior Technical College or Vocational School with 75% or above (Zhongzhuan)
  • Successfully completing the first year of a Bachelor degree in China

Entry requirement for postgraduate studies 

  • Holders of a Bachelor degree from a recognized Chinese university will be considered for postgraduate taught degree courses.
  • Applicants with a Masters’ degree from a recognised Chinese university will be considered for PhD studies

The University offers the following scholarships for self-funding international students. You will be automatically considered for one of these awards when we receive your application. 

Courses starting in September 2023 and February 2024

  • £1,500 per year for undergraduate students
  • £2,000 for postgraduate students
