The University offers the following scholarships for self-funding international students. You will be automatically considered for one of these awards when we receive your application. For more information visit the international scholarships page.

  • International Academic Scholarship of £1,500 per year for undergraduate students
  • International Academic Scholarships of £2,000 for postgraduate students
  • International Academic Scholarships of £1,500 for MBA students

Foundation Entry Requirements

  • International Foundation Year (Intensive English) is available for those students who completed 12 years of High School education and have successfully obtained the High School Diploma with a score of at least 6 and have an IELTS 5.0 before progressing to their Bachelor degree.
  • Students who have a good level of English (IELTS 6.0 or equivalent) will be considered for our Faculty Foundation Years.


Undergraduate Entry Requirements

English Qualifications

Proficiency in English is essential for Undergraduate study. The University of South Wales recognises the following English Language qualifications:

  • GCSE/O Level English Language grade C or above
  • IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each band)

Don’t worry if you do not meet these requirements as we offer a range of English Language courses.


Academic Qualifications

  • Holders of the D1 or D2 Diploma will be considered for suitable undergraduate courses.
  • Applicants who have completed a relevant International Foundation Programme will be considered for undergraduate degree courses.
  • Holders of the International Baccalaureate Diploma or ‘A’ levels will be considered for direct admission to first degree programmes. Students who do not meet these entry requirement will be considered for a Foundation year.

Postgraduate Entry Requirements

English Qualifications

Proficiency in English is essential for Postgraduate study. The University of South Wales also recognises the following English language qualifications:

  • GCSE/O Level English at grade C or above
  • Postgraduate Study: IELTS with an overall score of 6.0 with at least a 5.5 in each component. Please note that some courses may require a higher level of English language proficiency than the University’s standard requirements. Please see the course page for further information.

Academic Qualifications

  • Applicants with an undergraduate (Bachelor) degree that is equivalent to a UK Upper Second Class degree (also known as a 2:1) will be considered for postgraduate programmes.
  • Applicants holding a Bachelor degree, also known as the Sarjana (S1) from accredited A universities with a GPA of 2.2/4.0 will be considered for postgraduate programmes.
  • Applicants holding a Bachelor degree, also known as the Sarjana (S1) from accredited B universities with a GPA of 2.6/4.0 will be considered for postgraduate programmes.
  • Applicants with other relevant qualifications or work experience may be considered on a case by case basis.
