We have three vibrant campuses around the capital city of Wales; Cardiff. Here, you can enjoy a high standard of living at a low cost. Most of our 500 + courses are recognised or accredited by professional organisations and are all taught with employability in mind. That’s why 96% of USW graduates are in Employment and/or Further Study 15 months after graduation (Graduate Outcomes Survey 2021/22).


Everything you need to know

As a self-funding international student from South Africa, you are eligible for a scholarship of:

  • £2,500 per year for undergraduate students
  • £2,500 per year for postgraduate students 

This applies for courses starting in September 2024 and February 2025. You will be automatically considered for one of these awards when we receive your application.

Foundation Years are available to students who don't meet the academic requirements for entry directly onto year 1 of a Bachelor degree.

English Qualifications

Proficiency in English is essential for undergraduate and postgraduate study. The University of South Wales recognises the following English Language qualifications:

  • Senior Certificate with a grade C or higher in English
  • GCSE/O Level English Language grade C or above
  • IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each band)

Don’t worry if you do not meet these requirements as we offer a range of English Language courses.

Academic Qualifications

  • Applicants who have followed the A-Level curriculum can be considered for undergraduate entry – the normal UCAS tariff will be applied
  • Applicants who have followed the IB Diploma curriculum can be considered for undergraduate entry – the normal UCAS tariff will be applied
  • Applicants with a National Senior Certificate (with matriculation) and 3 6 grades and 2 5 grades and with a grade 5 or higher in English can be considered for direct entry to our degree programmes
  • Applicants with a Senior Certificate (with matriculation) and 3 B grades and 2 C grades at Higher Level with a grade C or higher in English can be considered for direct entry to our degree programmes
  • Applicants who have successful completed a Higher Certificate / Higher Certificate in Technology will be considered for direct entry our degree programmes
  • Applicants who have successful completed a National (Technical) Certificate N5 will be considered for direct entry to our degree programmes
  • Applicants who have successfully completed a Diploma in Technology (DipTech) will be considered for advanced entry on a case by case basis

  • Applicants with a Technikon National Higher Diploma (T4) can be considered for entry for masters programme entry
  • Applicants with a 4 year degree equivalent to a Second Class Lower degree from a recognised institution will be considered for masters programme entry
  • Applicants with a Masters degree will be considered for masters programme entry
