Welcome to the University of South Wales! As one of the largest universities in the UK we are proud of our internationally diverse student body. We have been welcoming students from South Korea to the University for some years and have developed excellent support services for you.

The University offers the following scholarships for self-funding international students. You will be automatically considered for one of these awards when we receive your application. For more information visit the international scholarships page.

  • International Academic Scholarship of £1,500 per year for undergraduate students
  • International Academic Scholarships of £2,000 for postgraduate students
  • International Academic Scholarships of £1,500 for MBA students

Foundation Entry Requirements

  • International Foundation Year (Intensive English) is available for those students who have passed the High School Diploma from a Specialised or Vocational High School and have an IELTS 5.0 before progressing to their Bachelor degree.
  • Students who have a good level of English (IELTS 6.0 or equivalent) will be considered for our Faculty Foundation Years.

Undergraduate Entry Requirements

English Qualifications

Proficiency in English is essential for Undergraduate study. The University of South Wales recognises the following English Language qualifications:

  • GCSE/O Level English Language grade C or above
  • IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each band)

Don’t worry if you do not meet these requirements as we offer a range of English Language courses.


Academic Qualifications

  • Students who have successfully completed one year at a recognised university in South Korea with a GPA of 2.8 or above (depending on the subject area) will be considered for direct entry onto the first year of our undergraduate programmes.
  • Students who successfully completed a Junior College (Vocational) Diploma/Associate Degree will be considered for direct entry onto the first year of our undergraduate programmes.
  • Holders of the International Baccalaureate Diploma with higher grades of between 655-445 (this is equivalent to 112-80 UCAS tariff points) will be considered for direct admission to first year degree programmes. Please refer to our course pages for detailed entry requirements. Students who do not meet the entry requirement will be considered for a Foundation year.
  • Holders of the Cambridge GCE A Levels will be considered against the standard UCAS tariff for each individual course for direct admission to first year degree programmes.

Postgraduate Entry Requirements

English Qualifications

Proficiency in English is essential for Postgraduate study. The University of South Wales recognises the following English Language qualifications:

  • GCSE/O Level English at grade C or above
  • Postgraduate Study: IELTS with an overall score of 6.0 with at least a 5.5 in each component. Please note that some courses may require a higher level of English language proficiency than the University’s standard requirements. Please see the course page for further information.

Academic Qualifications

  • Students who have successfully completed the Haksa (Bachelor) in a relevant discipline will be considered for entry onto our postgraduate programmes.
  • Applicants with a Masters degree will be considered for entry to Ph.D. studies.
