"South Wales is a beautiful place to live’’
Hi, I'm Prabhani Hansika Gunasekera, from Colombo, in Sri Lanka. I’m studying MSc Data Science at USW. In my course, students are assessed through practical coursework. We also get the opportunity to do a research project with an industry partner. These help us become more industry ready and give us the opportunity to put what we learn into practice. As someone who aspires to have a career in management consultancy, this gives me a great opportunity to get a flavour of what it is like to use data science in the industry.
Some of the main factors that influenced my choice of university is its reputation and ranking related to my subject, the course content offered, location and convenience and student friendliness of the city where the campus is located.
South Wales is a beautiful place to live in. Its’ scenic views, fresh air and clean water give one a pleasant habitat. From mountains to beaches, it has everything. I have thoroughly enjoyed living in South Wales and visited most of the places. Coming from an island, I love beaches and Barry Island, Cardiff Bay and Mumbles pier are some of my favourite places in South Wales. Getting to the top of the mountains around Pontypridd is also one of the best experiences. You can even drive up there. The view from the top is beautiful and the starry nights there are breathtaking. Most of the cities in South Wales are student friendly and there are plenty of part time job opportunities if you want to earn some pocket money.
The UK is a great place for studies and its quality of education is at the top. Most of the cities are student friendly and provide various benefits and offers for students. The cost of living in Wales is comparatively lesser and USW is one of the top ranked universities in Wales. Therefore, my advice would be to use your opportunity wisely and make the best of all the facilities and services available to you to both excel in your field of studies and have a great experience.
