"The course fee is very affordable.’’
Hi, I'm Tharindu Sangeeth Madushan and I’m from Colombo in Sri Lanka. I’m studying BEng Civil Engineering at the University of South Wales. The University was recommended to me by one of my friends and I also undertook my own research on the internet.
I chose to study at USW as Sri Lankan students are offered scholarships worth £2500. Their course fee is very affordable and fits with my budget compared to other universities. I love the fact that the university is in the peaceful town of Treforest which is only 25 minutes by train from Cardiff and 2 hours from London.
I’m able to enjoy the high-tech labs with the latest facilities in order to gain the best quality educational experience and a great lecture panel. USW provides a lot more facilities for international students, such as low-cost accommodation, sports facilities, and physical and mental health.
The biggest difference between life in the UK and back home is the cooler climate. Studying in the UK has allowed me to make friends with other international students as well as fellow students from Sri Lanka.
For anyone thinking of studying in the UK, I’d say the practical knowledge and advanced technology used in the UK will help to advance students’ careers when they return back home to Sri Lanka.
During my time at the university, I’ve learned time management skills & all the qualities of becoming a leader which will help me in my future career. Hopefully, once I have completed the BEng course I will become a civil engineer and start my own construction company one day.
